The Story Behind MITZ BLENZ

Kia ora, I'm Mita Waiti, also known as MITZ BLENZ. I'm a home based barber doing backyard cuts in Coromandel Town NZ. My barbering journey started about four years ago when I was living in one of my beautiful hometowns, Rotorua.

Back then, I'd head into the barbershop every two or three months just to keep my hair under control. Anyone who knows me knows my hair can get pretty wild if I leave it too long!

At the time, I was spending anywhere between $30 and $50 on each haircut. As a dad, there were plenty of weeks when I simply couldn't justify spending that money on myself. My kids and their needs always came first, so sometimes I'd go up to six months without getting a haircut.

Eventually, I started thinking there had to be a better way.

Instead of continuing to pay someone else, I decided to invest in myself. I bought some cheap clippers and trimmers from Temu, grabbed a few other bits and pieces from The Warehouse, and started teaching myself how to cut hair.

I spent hours watching videos online, learning different techniques and trying to figure out how to do it all myself. I was determined to get better and the more I learnt, the more I realised how much I enjoyed it.

What started as a way to save money soon became something more meaningful to me.

It wasn't just about learning to cut my own hair anymore. I wanted to build a skill that I could pass on to my family and kids, so they could learn to do things for themselves and hopefully avoid some of the struggles and mistakes I'd made along the way.

Looking back, I'm glad I made that decision to pick up my first pair of clippers. What started out of necessity became the beginning of my barbering journey and that's where the story of
MITZ BLENZ began.
